A Gourmet Meal for Montgomery County Firefighters Started in Our Smokehouse
Danny Kim, a food creator with 3.3 million subscribers on YouTube, spent an afternoon at 2fifty's Riverdale Park location this July. He came to learn one thing: how Fernando González smokes a brisket.
González has run the smoker at 2fifty since 2018, using post oak and nothing else, no gas, no electric assist. The process takes anywhere from six to fourteen hours, depending on the cut. Kim filmed the exchange, then took what he learned to a fire station in Montgomery County, Maryland, where he cooked a meal for the crew on shift.
The video, “I Surprised Firefighters With a Gourmet Meal,” has reached Kim's audience of 3.3 million subscribers since it was published on July 21. In it, Kim credits the technique directly to his time at 2fifty's smokehouse, where González walked him through trimming, seasoning, and managing the fire itself, the parts of the process that rarely make it onto a plate.
It's a small detail in a much longer video, but it's the one that matters most here: a skill built over years in a smokehouse in Riverdale Park ended up on the table for a group of firefighters an afternoon away, cooked by someone who'd never touched a smoker like it before that day.
2fifty operates two locations in the DMV, Riverdale Park, Maryland, and K Street NW in Washington, D.C. Both run on the same wood-fired process González has used since the beginning.
